TOTW #41: Zooming Tools in PhotoPaint 12

Postby DrBrown » Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:07 pm

PURPOSE: Tip #41 will discuss using the zoom features for photo imaging in the Corel PhotoPaint 12 program. There are different methods so hopefully you will find the best way to use your program that meets your needs.

Step 1: Open your PhotoPaint 12 program.

Step 2: At the welcome screen, click Open. Then open any JPEG photo on your computer, as it does not matter what the photo is since we are only going to practice zooming in on a specific area.

Step 3: We have opened our photo in PhotoPaint, hopefully you were able to open your photo. We want to zoom in towards the plant grouping in front of the porch steps that we've outlined in red. Pick a smaller area in your photo that you want to zoom in on so that the area is large enough to fill your screen.

Step 4: Now click the Zoom Tool magnifying glass from the left toolbar.

Step 5: To zoom in on the area shown above in step 3 we will click and drag a box around that specified area with the zoom tool, as shown below. Whatever is inside the box you create with the zoom tool is what will fill your screen when you let go of the mouse button.

Step 6: This area will fill the screen when we drag a box around our front plant grouping:

Step 7: Now let's zoom back out to a full screen. The easiest way to get this back is in the top tool bars. Look for the drop down list with a percentage. Click on the list and choose "To Fit" and it will zoom back so the whole photo fills your screen.

Step 8: We are going to try zooming in with the second method for photopaint. We want to zoom in on the water feature on the lower right of our design. We simply position the mouse over that waterfall, and roll the mouse wheel forward a couple clicks and it zooms in toward wherever your mouse is on the photo. As you can see we have zoomed in right on the waterfall area very quickly and efficiently.

NOTE: The other alternative for zooming in PhotoPaint is using the F2 key to zoom in, and the F3 key to zoom out. The F3 key can be a quick way to zoom back out to 100% as well.
