My Clone Tool Stopped Working

Postby DrBrown » Fri May 07, 2010 12:37 pm

There are several things that can make your clone tool(s) disfunctional. We get the tech calls for this one quite often. One thing that happens is Microsoft will do automatic updates that break the tools. If you try to click on the clone tools but it acts like they don't do anything, or you receive a runtime error, you may need to reset your program. To reset, just close PhotoPaint 12. From the Desktop screen, hold down the F8 key and at the same time, double-click on PhotoPaint12. This should display "Are you sure you want to overwrite the current workspace with the factor default?". Click Yes and it will reset the toolbars.

If this does not fix your issue, it is likely due to a Windows service pack issue. In which case you need to create a new clone tool. Place the mouse over the left toolbar and right-click on it. A list of toolbars will pop up. Click on "Clone Tools" to open the cloning toolbar. 5 new tools should appear in a separate bar. Click on the blue top bar where it says Clone Tools and drag it over below your existing tools on the left. It should spin the toolbar and drop it right below your existing tools. The first button is the standard Clone tool which replaced the little guys holding hands. The last, or 5th tool, is the Clone From Fill, replacing the first teal block that lets you paint grass and other textures on your photo.
